Theo Chocolate Tour

Marketing Club just got back from a very successful tour of Theo Chocolate, Seattle's original chocolate factory. We learned about the operations of one of America's only bean-to-bar chocolate factories and tasted delicious chocolate every step of the way, from Venezuelan dark chocolate to coconut curry chocolate to a whiskey ganache.

Thanks to everyone who went and hope you enjoyed all the free chocolate!

Participate in a market research survey!

Hey Redhawks,

In case you missed Marketing Club's tabling last week, we have a very exciting project we'd like to share with you! We are teaming up with Campus Ministry to conduct some market research on how students perceive the organization, its promotions, and its breadth of programs. The results of this research will give us a better idea of what CM is doing right and in what areas it could improve, and eventually, we hope to work with CM to provide a marketing strategy and events more catered to your interests.

A committee of marketing club members have designed a survey to measure these perspectives and we'd be extremely grateful if you could take two minutes to fill it out. Not only will your input help improve campus life, but Campus Ministry is offering an additional incentive by providing gift cards to popular Capitol Hill hangouts. Any survey responses provided before March 1 will be entered into a drawing for one of three $25 gift cards to Cupcake Royale, Stumptown Coffee, or Piecora's Pizza.

Complete the survey online at: http://studentvoice.com/su/campusministrystudentperceptions

Best regards,SU Marketing Club, Service Committee

A Visit to Boeing

The Marketing Club had the incredible opportunity to tour Boeing's Everett plant last Friday and got to see (a tiny portion of) the largest building in the world. We learned about the history of this nearly one-hundred-year-old company and saw firsthand how it pioneered six sigma and lean production and mastered logistics to become one of the largest global aircraft manufacturers and the second largest aerospace and defense contractor in the world.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the tour! Have an idea of another local company for Marketing Club to tour? Email us at members@sumarketingclub.com !

A Pleasure with Piecora’s Pizza

Family owned and operated since 1982, Piecoras Pizza is the "slice of New York in Seattle."

As a local businessman and entrepreneur, Danny Piecora spoke to Marketing Club to explain his experience about starting his successful business and how his marketing strategy is what drives his business.

Simple and to the point Mr. Piecora spoke from his heart and his family in which from our executive team our top take always included:

  1. Danny's strategies were a refreshing change from the by-the-book rules for operating a business that we are always taught. He reminded us that overall, what matters most is that the business is connected with the customer and the customer likes the product.
  2. The way to get attention is to get your customer to taste the product (handing pizza out to stopped cars.
  3. Couponing isn’t always a good thing, because it reflects the kind of customers you expect and want.
  4. It's all about the supply chain - ingredients make all the difference in the competitive restaurant industry.
  5. “Prepare to go out of business”- if it doesn't work the first time with a business, learn from it and try again.
