The Sum of "Sales Night"

Sales Night was a success!! With a full auditorium full of students, teachers, graduates and businessmen and women there were great speakers and an open place which great topics such as: debunking sales myths, the entrepreneurial side of sales, innovative technologies to effective sales, applying marketing concepts to sales, the future of selling, careers in sales and networking with sales representatives were discussed. 

Top Take-Aways:
  • Despite the name, sales is not "tricking" someone. Sales is essentially about building a personal relationship between a company/brand and a customer.
  • 77% of people in sales jobs enjoy going to work every day - a number that is significantly higher than that of the average profession - and only 7% of people in sales jobs dislike their work.
  • Sales really require soft skills and hard skills and balancing the two.
  • The sales profession is constantly changing. The idea of the used car salesmen and cold calls are become less important, while modern sales is becoming more about strategy, customer intimacy, and value propositions.
  • Many jobs include selling but do not have sales in the name. Just because "sales" isn't in a job title, doesn't mean that it's not fundamentally a sales job - customer service, donor relations, etc. are all in the sales family. 
  • While sales is an excellent profession in itself, it's also often used as a stepping stone for climbing the corporate ladder - most CEOs start off in sales.
